If you had asked me 18 months ago, where would you go to buy stock in a specific company, I would’ve guessed “That companies website, surely?”
Listed companies do a great job at advertising their services but a poor one at marketing their stock, and I’ve wondered why?
Surely owning stock in a company would encourage loyalty to that company?
I spend my money at a lot of these companies, why not own their stock at the same time?
This is where EasyEquities has changed the game for me, they’ve made it an easy, enjoyable, (and low cost) experience to own stock in the companies I interact with on a daily basis.
I discovered EasyEquities on twitter, more and more of the people I followed were starting to tweet their investments they were making. It sparked an interest (and created discussions around certain investments people were making) and it occurred to me, here is a company that is trying to break down the barriers to entry into the stock market and make it an open, fun experience at the same time, encouraging social sharing, and who best to learn from than your peers?
I initially started out with a few bucks here and there, getting comfortable with the platform (I know there is a demo account to do this with but I just thought you need some skin in the game to really learn) .
Fast forward 18 months, I have built a portfolio in both my AUD and USD accounts, with monthly recurring investments into each.
It’s the discipline that will make the difference over the next 10 years.
