Dividends Update: 1 May 2023 (week 18)

New week, new month! This week, there are 21 companies with upcoming last trading dates. This comprises of 17 American companies, four from the United Kingdom.

Glencore plc (one of the biggest energy players) will be paying $0.44 per share between two periods. The first is included in this list, and it also announced a share buyback program. Gary Nagle, Glencore’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “The unprecedented developments in global energy markets were material drivers for both our marketing and industrial businesses, lifting Group Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) to $34.1 billion, up $12.8 billion over the period. Marketing posted another record performance, with Adjusted EBIT of $6.4 billion, up 73% year on year…and net debt was reduced to $0.1 billion.”

This enabled the company to announce a $5.1 billion cash distribution ($0.40/share), a $0.5 billion "top-up" cash distribution ($0.04/share), and a $1.5 billion buyback program (c.$0.12/share), which is a total of $0.56 per share return to shareholders.

Looking at dividend yields, American companies like Energy Transfer LP, Magellan Midstream Partners LP, and Equitrans Midstream Corporation have been paying dividends up to four times a year and have an annual dividend yield between 7-11% as of writing; Main Street Capital Corp has a 6% annual dividend yield, and the investment firm has a history of paying dividends monthly.
